Ruston Farmers Market Taste of Summer Fest
The Ruston Farmers Market will hold a Taste of Summer Fest on Saturday, July 15, from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the market building, 220 E. Mississippi, in downtown Ruston, Louisiana.
This annual event will have some new activities this year. There will be a homemade pie-baking contest with contestants using at least one ingredient from the market. Judging begins at 10:00 a.m. Applications are $5 and are available on the market’s homepage, www.RustonFarmersMarket.org.
Ruston-native Chef Desi Bourgeois and Chef Paul Halaszyn from Pato Feo Farms will give cooking demonstrations utilizing market ingredients. Gordon Reger from Louisiana Tech’s Meat Lab will give a talk and demonstration on selecting meat cuts and how to prepare them.
Rolling Hills Ministries donated t-shirts that volunteers sewed into market bags. Children will decorate the bags at the North Central Louisiana Arts Council booth. Vendors will be handing out recipes, and the Tennessee Avenue Band will provide music.
There will be free giveaways provided by the market’s vendors on the hour. A raffle for a chance to win a Yeti Hopper cooler filled with Smith Family Farms’ steaks and Holly Creek Farms’ pork will also be held.
Rick Godley of Peach Radio 99.3 will be on hand to emcee all events.
North Louisiana Farm Fresh Corporation, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, manages Ruston Farmers’ Market. The market is sponsored in part by Bank of Ruston, First National Bank, Origin Bank, and Ensure Agency. For more information on the Ruston Farmers’ Market, visit www.rustonfarmersmarket.org.
