Learning to Draw: Giacometti and Measuring - Art Workshop with Artist Charlie Meeds
March 5th - Giacometti and Measuring: In this session you will learn visual perception, or “rendre ma vision,” as Giacometti famously declared. You will learn to model both the figure and its surrounding space, and to pushing art past its descriptive mandates in pursuit of an interior reality. In addition you will learn how to measure objects for accuracy.
Workshop Description: This is an extended version of last quarter's three session class. In this workshop Charlie Meeds will expand on the previous course by teaching six different principles over six weeks. He will help you to explore through drawing how to think about what you are seeing and not take it for granted. As a result, you will be able to read a piece of art and begin drawing at a deeper, more meaningful level. All sessions will include lecture and practice. You may sign up for one class or all six classes. Each class will focus only on the topic identified. Out of respect for other participants, no time will be spent trying to catch learners up on previous sessions.
Instructor: Charlie Meeds taught art at LA Tech University from 1970-1984 and continues to teach in the community. He has a BA in Fine Arts with a major in painting and print making. He also holds an MA in Fine Arts.
What to Bring: 11x14 drawing pad, kneaded eraser, at least one each turquoise 2b and 4b pencils. Supplies can be purchased at Fine Line Supply Co. Water, coffee and a snack will be provided.
