The Enterprise Center Gallery is honored and humbled to host an exhibition of paintings by Whitney Trisler Causey Assistant Professor of Art at Louisiana Tech University. The exhibition is an ongoing series of painted portraits of children who have been diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome (AS). Angelman syndrome is a rare neurogenetic disorder that affects approximately one in 15,000 people – about 500,000 individuals worldwide. On September 25th, 2017 Causey's daughter was diagnosed with AS. In the time since then Causey has been a fierce advocate for her child and other families of those affected by AS. This series of portraits represents a fraction of the faces of children who were also diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome in the same year, whose families have become part of a greater network and community of support for those affected by AS. In an effort to promote awareness and honor these children, as well as celebrate the artist of this beautiful work, we invite everyone to join us for an opening reception on Friday, February 15th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, which is International Angelman Syndrome Awareness Day. Whitney Trisler Causey is an Assistant Professor of Studio Art at the Louisiana Tech University School of Design where she teaches in the Foundations Department. While teaching is one of her great passions, Professor Causey is an active exhibiting artist. Causey’s current body of work is a series of portrait paintings that question the notion of identity and challenge our perceptions and assumptions of a person. She has also completed 11 large-scale murals in north Louisiana within the last five years. Her work has been exhibited nationwide including New York at the Chautauqua Institution, and Cleveland Ohio, at the Manifest Gallery and Drawing Center.
