Each summer, over 2,000 students head to Louisiana Tech’s campus for Freshman Orientation. These three-day sessions help new students and their families feel welcome at their new “home” and help them plug into the university and community and officially begins with the Dog Days of Summer in Downtown Ruston. The Dog Days of Summer gives orientation guests the opportunity to explore our beautiful downtown and the wonderful merchants that make it amazing. The event kicks off at 7:15 PM in Railroad Park with a warm welcome from Mayor Ronny Walker and Director of the Tech Band of Pride, Jim Robken. Local businesses keep their doors open until 9 PM for visitors to shop, browse, and dine while Shayliff, a local band out of Shreveport, rocks the railroad with live music until 10 PM.
